Virat Kohli to Step Down as RCB Captain After IPL 2021

Dubai: In what would come as surprising news for his fans, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has decided to step down as the leader after the ongoing second phase of the IPL 2021 in UAE. In a statement issued by Kohli, he confirmed that this would be his last IPL as captain of RCB and added that he would continue as an RCB player till he plays his last IPL. He also thanked his fans for all the support he received.

“This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me,” Virat Kohli said.

This announcement comes a week after Kohli decided to step down as the skipper of the Indian T20 team after the T20 World Cup. It would now be interesting to see who takes over from Kohli. There are senior players like AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell in the squad.

“Kohli is losing control. He has lost respect and some of the players are not liking his attitude. He is no more an inspirational leader and he doesn’t earn the players’ respect. Some of them have reached their limits when it comes to dealing with him,” a source while talking to The Telegraph said.

RCB would take on KKR in their UAE leg opener on Monday (September 20).
