No Superpower Can Dictate India’s Foreign Policy, Says Imran Khan in Address to Nation Ahead of No-trust Vote

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday addressed the nation ahead of no-trust vote in the national assembly on Saturday and said he is greatly disappointed by the verdict by the Supreme Court. The apex court of Pakistan had on Thursday restored the National Assembly after it declared the government’s decision to dissolve the assembly and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling against the Constitution.

Imran Khan in his address to the nation said, “I am upset with the Supreme Court’s decision. I was upset because when the Dy Speaker conducted the probe, the SC should have investigated it.” Khan said he will not accept imported government and called for street protests on Sunday evening

Praising India, he said no superpower can dictate India’s foreign policy. “I know India much better than most others. No superpower can dictate India’s foreign policy. It is only because of RSS ideology that there has been a breakdown in India-Pakistan ties,” he said. He went on to say that Pakistan must have an independent foreign policy.

He accused the US of a foreign conspiracy to topple his government and said, “I don’t know how and who they are trying to threaten. I am the Chief Executive of my country and of 220 million people, if we have to live like this then why are we even independent.”

Khan also said there is rampant horse-trading in the opposition camp. “Which country’s democracy allows these kinds of acts. I’m not anti-American but we don’t need a one-sided relationship. Look at India, no one can dictate to India on their foreign policy (the way they dictate to us),” Imran Khan said.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan had said that he would address the nation on Friday evening after his government suffered a setback following the Supreme Court’s decision. Khan had said a meeting of the PTI’s parliamentary committee would also be convened on Friday and he would “continue to fight for Pakistan till the last ball”.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court on Thursday had ordered National Assembly Speaker Asad Qasier to summon the session on Saturday to allow the vote on the no-confidence motion against the premier.
