New Delhi: Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Tuesday said that Tamil Nadu BJP will not allow the imposition of Hindi in the southern state.
“Tamil Nadu BJP won’t allow Hindi imposition in the state. BJP will be proud if Tamil will be a link language in our country. If we want it, the Tamil Nadu government should write to all other states and ask 10 Tamil schools in those states. If it’s done, BJP will welcome it,” said K Annamalai, TN BJP chief.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had on April 7 announced that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has determined that Hindi will be the official language for running the government, which will boost Hindi’s prominence.”
The announcement was met with stiff opposition from several quarters with many opposition leaders saying the government is imposing the Hindi language.
The statement was made at the 37th Parliamentary Official Language Committee meeting on Thursday.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had alleged that the BJP is always attempting to destroy India’s “pluralistic identity.”
